The Anthropology and Divergence Congress: Call for papers
The Anthropology and Divergence Congress will be held from the 5th to the 10th of January 2026 in Victoria, La Araucanía Region and the call for proposals is now open. One of the symposiums is “Divergences in dances and performances: bodies in movement”, which coordinates Andrea Chamorro, CMUS researcher, along with Ignacia Cortés and Ignacio Amigo. They wrote:
“In the last few decades, throughout Chile, ethnographic studies have been carried out on various traditional and contemporary performance practices, which began to form a new field of studies. These investigations deal with both contemporary expressions and dances of Afro-descendant, indigenous and popular roots, which on the ground reflect the cultural diversity of the country, which, in many cases, enable community, ecological and bodily experiences that go against both hegemonic forms of subjectivity and national borders. In this way, these practices contribute to reconstructing meanings based on the relationship between bodies, sounds, spaces and movements.
In this context, this symposium — whose thematic focus is pioneering in the trajectory of the Chilean Congresses of Anthropology — seeks to bring together researchers who, from embodied ethnographic perspectives, inquire into the divergences regarding hegemonic constructions of gender, ethnicity and citizenship, among others, planted and experienced from there practice of different traditional and contemporary dance and performance genres, inside and outside Chile. We hope that the papers problematize different situated case studies, the epistemological and methodological challenges inherent to these studies, as well as the projections of this thematic field in our milieu”.
