The 1st ULagos Musicology Symposium: Reflections on Musical Research and Creation will be held on October 29 and 30, 2025, organized by research associate Javier Silva Zurita. He will moderate the inaugural lecture “Art and Science: Intuition and Rationality” by composer Andrián Pertout (Chile/Australia).

Other CMUS members will participate, such as director Christian Spencer, who will give the plenary lecture “Festivalization Processes in Latin American Traditional Music: The Case of Folklore Competitions (1990-2025).” Additionally, research associate Natalia Bieletto will give the presentation “The Music of the Tents in Mexico: Creation of the Documentary Archive and Open Science for the Use, Reuse, and Distribution of Primary Sources Associated with this Scene.” She will be part of Session 5, which will also include Gabriel Sepúlveda and Mauro Dlugovitzky from UChile.

The symposium will feature special concerts, such as one by Puerto Montt singer Emilia Díaz at the end of the first day. The closing concert will feature a performance by the ULagos Ensemble under the direction of Jorge Pacheco E., followed by “Spectral Remanents” by Cristian Galarce (ULagos), conducted by Juan Bautista Torres and commented by Cristian Galarce. This is followed by “Hornopirén II” by Edgar Girtain (WCU), conducted by Juan Bautista Torres and presented by Aracely Rojas. The evening concludes with “El viento es un caballo” (The Wind is a Horse, for choir, chamber orchestra, electronics, and visuals, No. 492) by Andrián Pertout, conducted by Jorge Pacheco E.
