CMUS in Revista Musical Chilena
The latest issue of the Revista Musical Chilena includes a dossier edited by Eileen Karmy and Javier Rodríguez, associate researchers until December 2025. They wrote the introduction to the document. This dossier is the result of the working group “50 Years Since the Coup.” It contains the following articles: “Conversations on ‘El pueblo unido’: Towards an Alternative Memory of the Fifty Years,” by Eileen Karmy and Martín Farías; “New Approaches to Víctor Jara Fifty Years After His Death,” by Daniel Party; and “Music of the Chilean Exile: Memories and Textile Creation,” by Laura Jordán, both senior researchers at CMUS.
Javier Rodríguez and Eileen Karmy wrote the following in the introduction: “The dossier ‘Musical Commemorations of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Coup d’État’ emerged from the ’50 Years’ working group of the Millennium Nucleus in Musical and Sound Cultures (CMUS1), which met regularly from the beginning of 2023, with Daniela Fugellie, Laura Jordán, Eileen Karmy, Daniel Party, Javier Rodríguez, and Elisa Montecinos, who joined later. This working group initially sought to bring together researchers studying music and politics to reflect on the commemorations of the Chilean coup d’état through musical expressions. Thus, this dossier was created, bringing together, on the one hand, the results of the work developed by the CMUS ’50 Years’ group, and, on the other hand, incorporating documents submitted through an open and public call for submissions and selected through peer review, written by Ricardo Álvarez, Víctor Contreras, Jean Franco Daponte, Stefano Gavagnin, and Martín Farías.”
