He holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from Birkbeck College, University of London, a Master’s degree in Art Theory and History, and is a sociologist. His research areas include the sociology of art and culture, cultural studies, and the history and theory of cultural policies in Latin America. He is the editor-in-chief of the journal Comunicación y Medios (Scopus, ERIH Plus, Scielo).

He is currently the Principal Investigator of the Fondecyt Initiation Project No. 11240541 (2024-2026) “Power, Influence, Knowledge, and Change in the Configuration of Recent Cultural Institutions in Chile: Towards a Sociology of Cultural Policies,” Co-Investigator of the Project (2023-2024) “Development of a Policy Model for the Chilean Cultural Industry: Lessons from South Korea” (Funded by the Korea Foundation), and Co-Investigator of the Fondecyt Regular Project No. 1211594 (2021-2024) “Film Audiences in Chile: Film Culture, Cinephilia, and Formation Processes.” He is the author of the books The unrelenting gap: Cultural policies and inequality in Chile (OPC Editions, 2023), Imagining Common Times (Balmaceda Arte Joven, 2022) and Sociology(ies) of Art and Cultural Policies (Metales Pesados, 2020)
