CMUS principal researcher Andrea Chamorro will lead the Workshop on Anthropologies and Experimental Cinemas, organized by the Tierra en Trance collective, which will take place between January 12 and 23, 2026. The workshop seeks to address cinema and anthropology as relational processes, open to encounter, uncertainty, and formal experimentation, challenging the boundaries between observation, participation, and creation.

The project website states the following: “We propose a training space aimed at creators interested in the intersections, collisions, and intertwinings between film and anthropology, with a special emphasis on experimental ethnography and the fields of audiovisual experimentation. From both a conceptual and practical approach, participants are invited to question traditional forms of representing the social, culture, and otherness, exploring ethnography not only as a research method but also as a creative, sensitive, and situated practice. The space proposes to approach film and anthropology as relational processes, open to encounter, uncertainty, and formal experimentation, challenging the boundaries between observation, participation, and creation. Through the review of theoretical texts, films, and practical exercises, as well as collective discussion, the aim is to establish a dialogue between the anthropological gaze and listening and contemporary practices of experimental and ethnographic cinema, attending to their ethical, political, and poetic dimensions.

This workshop, held in collaboration with Aricadoc, has 10 places available and applications are open until January 5th. More information and the registration form can be found at tierra-en-trance.cl
