Beatriz Medeiros, postdoctoral researcher at CMUS, participated in the Women in Underground Music Gathering held on April 12th from Brazil. This was a class by the Hi Hat Girls collective, discussing power and gender relations in underground music scenes.

“Hi Hat is a project that offers drum lessons for girls and women,” says Beatriz Medeiros. “The practical classes are free, because many women don’t have the opportunity to access drums or other percussion instruments due to historical and cultural obstacles. Julie Sousa is the creator of the project; I’ve been with them since 2019, when I began my PhD.”
