On Monday, March 24, CMUS Alternate Director Carla Pinochet gave a talk at the Inauguration of the Academic Year at the Faculty of Arts of the Academia de Humanismo Cristiano University. Entitled “Culture, Politics, and Democracy: The Latin American Challenges of the Right to Culture,” the researcher posed the question of whether it is possible to speak of cultural democracy by exploring the trajectory of this notion as a guiding paradigm for cultural policies in the specific context of Chile and Latin America. It is argued that Cultural Democracy updates the question of cultural rights from its most uncomfortable angles and invites us to restore the importance of dissent and diversity in the dialogue around cultural issues
