Christian Spencer wrote for Lorenzo Cornejo’s new album
On December last year Egloga: Ciclo de canciones para voz, narración y guitarra was released. In this record Lorenzo Cornejo, put music to Pablo de Rokha’s poetry. The Chilean guitar player and singer asked Christian Spencer to write the prlologue to it that comes as a physical and digital booklet on the album.
The director of CMUS wrote the following: “The beautiful version of Égloga that we can hear here is not actually a ‘song cycle for voice, narration, and guitar,’ as its title suggests, but rather an honest balance between embracing Rokhian excess and a stable interpretation of the music (in Lorenzo’s composition). It is music that absorbs and projects the intensity of the words with the sweetness of listening (in Cristina’s timbre) in an exercise of respectful creativity where simplicity and a direct approach to the music manage to tame the depth and sordidness of the words of the writer from Alicante, using musical genres and rhythmic structures from an ordered and loving guitar, played with conviction and hints of sonic purity.” Read the full text at this link.
