As a prelude to #8M, International Women’s Day, the Permanent Seminar on Music and Gender of the Faculty of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico was held. In Session 3, “Susan McClary’s “Feminine Cadences” (1991/2023). Redefining a Classic,” Daniela Fugellie and Lorena Valdebenito spoke with the author. Both were the editors of the first translation, which was published two years earlier.

Originally released in 1991, “Feminine Cadences” is considered a founding classic of feminist musicology. The prologue to the Spanish version notes that the publication “transcended the conceptual differences between second and third wave feminism and has since sparked the interest of readers far beyond the confines of musicology and Anglo-Saxon academia.”
