The 77th German Musicological Society Conference begins today, and CMUS senior researcher Daniela Fugellie will give a presentation on “Reconstructing Germanness: The Deutsches Ausland-Institut and the Nationalist Networks of German Music in Chile, 1933–1945,” alongside João Romão of Freie Universität Berlin.

The Alberto Hurtado University academic explains: “The paper studies how German colonies in Chile were infiltrated by Nazi ideology between 1933 and 1945 through various musical practices, including trips by ensembles and military bands from Nazi Germany to Chile, as well as the dissemination of the NSDAP songbook through magazines and radio.”

Daniela Fugellie will also moderate the concert “Sobre la desaparecido / Über das Verschwinden,” dedicated to contemporary works by Latin American composers Part-Ensemble in Düsseldorf this Saturday, October 11.
