Silva-Zurita

Research associate

Professor of music education with a degree from Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación. Thanks to scholarships awarded by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica -CONICYT), he completed his masters and PhD. studies in Australia.

In 2010 he completed his Master’s Degree in Music Studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music – The University of Melbourne, where he examined the musical practices of a boarding school located inside a Mapuche community in Alto Bio-Bio. In 2017, he received a PhD. in Ethnomusicology from The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music – Monash University and under the supervision of Margaret Kartomi and Joel Crotty, he is carrying out a study on the main features of traditional Mapuche music. He currently works as professor for the Department of Arts and Humanities at the Universidad de Los Lagos, teaching and doing research.
