Music of the Chilean exile: memory and creation
In the context of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état, Laura Jordán, Javier Rodríguez, and Daniela Pizarro joined neighbors from the Casa Memoria in Valparaíso for a sound archiving and collective textile construction workshop. The aim was to connect musical research with the experience of collaborative textile creation. During the four days of the textile workshop, accompanied by music, a safe and appropriate environment was created for the expression and memory of women with diverse relationships to exile. The collaborative, creative, and coordinated dynamic, led by workshop facilitator Dani Negri, shed light on the intersections between culture and politics during the dictatorship and its aftermath. The accounts of the experiences of resistance and exile experienced by Chileans during the last military dictatorship, prompted by listening and reflection induced by musical creations that emerged in that context, urge us to heal a wound in society that has not yet healed. This is only the first half of the project promoted by Laura Jordán and Javier Rodríguez; The second event will be an exhibition of textiles, CDs, and infographics in Valparaíso, from November 16th to Friday, November 24th, at which time Daniel Party will give a closing talk.
