CMUS Research Associate Natalia Bieletto participated twice in the Uncommon Senses V Conference at Concordia University in Canada. First, she participated alongside María Consuelo Robledo in the session called “Sensory Ethnography I” , presenting the talk “From Sound Methods to Sound Products: Sound Immersive Capsules of Two Markets in Santiago, Chile.” . In it, they discussed the results of their research, which is part of their Fondecyt project that addresses the “sound cultures of two traditional markets in the city of Santiago (Chile): Vega Central, one of the largest farmers’ markets in the city, and a flea market in the Franklin neighborhood.

Then, in the session “Decolonizing/Reconstituting the Senses,” Natalia Bieletto presented “Zungun or Listening to the Mapu.” Indigenous Audibilities in Chile’s 2021 1st Constitutional Convention” (Zungun o escuchar al Mapu”, Audibilidades indígenas en la primera Convención Constituyente en 2021). According to their study, during this process, “indigenous representatives celebrated rituals, spoke their languages, and sang traditional songs in the hope that Chile would be declared a plurinational country.”
