The call for papers is now open for the 1st Symposium on Musicology ULagos 2025: Reflections on Musical Research and Creation, which will take place on October 29 and 30, 2025. The encounter seeks to “bring together researchers, composers, performers, cultural artists, and producers, among other stakeholders, to discuss the role of musical creation in today’s society, highlighting the importance of the reflective processes that underlie it.”

The symposium will have several special guests. The composer Andrián Pertout (Chile/Australia) will give the opening lecture. That same day, flutist Aline Goncalves (Brazil) will perform a concert. The final day will also feature live music, with a concert by the ULagos Ensemble, which will perform three works composed especially for the occasion by Chilean Cristian Galarce, American Edgard Girtain, and Andrian Pertout himself.

Presentation format

Abstracts of individual papers should be between 200 and 300 words. The title of the presentation must be indicated, as well as the author’s name, academic affiliation and a biography of a maximum of 100 words. The Individual presentations will be 20 minutes long, followed by a 10-minute discussion. The summaries of the thematic panels should have between 200 and 400 words. The title of the panel, the name of the coordinator, the titles of the presentations that make up the panel (if applicable), as well as the name, academic affiliation and biography of each author must be indicated. Thematic panels should be composed of 2 to 4 presenters, with a total duration of 60 minutes of presentation, followed by 30 minutes of questions and discussion.

Abstract submissions are open from June 11 to July 31, 2025, and accepted papers will be notified on August 5, 2025. Any questions should be directed to Javier Silva-Zurita. javier.silva@ulagos.cl. The reading committee is composed of Javier Silva-Zurita (ULagos); Ignacio Soto-Silva (ULagos), both researchers at CMUS; Leonora López (ULagos); José Velásquez (UATemuco); and Cristian Galarce (ULagos).

The symposium is organized by the Department of Humanities and Arts at ULagos; the Music Pedagogy Program, the Master’s Program in Arts and Education, and the ULagos Music Archive.
