A new call for applications has been opened for scholarships for undergraduate or graduate thesis students. This is part of the Fondecyt project “Popular Songbooks: Cultural Artifacts for Collective Musical Practice,” led by CMUS research associate Eileen Karmy.

The requirements include pursuing an undergraduate or graduate program in the arts, humanities, social sciences, or another related field at a Chilean university. The project director, Eileen Karmy, will serve as the thesis tutor or co-tutor. Applicants must verify whether their program accepts this requirement, which must be certified to receive the scholarship. The thesis must be registered between April 2025 and February 2026.

The application requirements include participating in meetings and collaborating on Fondecyt project activities; working independently and responsibly on your thesis; and holding regular meetings with your thesis co-supervisor.

Participation will be compensated with an annual fee of $3,750,000. The scholarship will be valid for one year, with the possibility of an extension for graduate students.

  • Community music
  • Music and politics
  • Amateur musical practices
  • Artistic work
  • Social history of popular music
  • Cultural history of the labor movement
  • Music and counterculture
  • Music archive

How to apply?

The following information should be sent to eileen.karmy[at]upla.cl:

  • Brief academic CV
  • Letter of intent describing motivations and suitability (500 words max.) and presenting thesis project (500 words max.).
  • Certificate of regular student status, or proof, indicating the year and stage in which the student is enrolled.

Interviews will be conducted via Zoom, and the deadline to apply is Monday, August 25.
