Next Tuesday, December 2nd, the workshop-discussion Conservation of Sound Collections on Cassette will be held, led by Carlos A. Hernández Navarrete (Faculty of Music-UNAM). This is part of the FONDECYT project 1230421, led by Dr. Laura Jordán, principal investigator at CMUS.

According to the organizers, this activity will share and discuss some general concepts and methods related to cassette tape preservation. “To this end, we propose opening a space for dialogue where we will explore possible approaches to the following questions: What is the current state of cassette tape collections? What are the material, socio-cultural, and management challenges we face in preserving these collections? How can archival work support this goal? To stimulate the conversation, we will take as our starting point the knowledge generated in the field of digital sound archive management and community archive preservation practices.”

The workshop/discussion will last three hours and is open to all ages and levels of knowledge. Registration is free but limited to 10 participants. Find the registration form here.
