{"id":19426,"date":"2025-10-06T20:08:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T20:08:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cmus.cl\/?p=19426"},"modified":"2025-10-06T20:08:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T20:08:16","slug":"we-invite-you-to-the-second-international-seminar-music-and-social-emergencies-contemporary-transformations-in-music-and-society-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmus.cl\/en\/we-invite-you-to-the-second-international-seminar-music-and-social-emergencies-contemporary-transformations-in-music-and-society-2\/","title":{"rendered":"We invite you to the second International Seminar &#8220;Music and Social Emergencies: Contemporary Transformations in Music and Society&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between October 8 and 10, the Millennium Nucleus in Musical and Sound Cultures (CMUS) will hold its second International Seminar, <em>&#8220;Music and Social Emergencies: Contemporary Transformations in Music and Society.<\/em>&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This event will bring together researchers and specialists from the Americas to explore the links between music and contemporary social emergencies, addressing three central themes: artificial intelligence and musical creation, urban governance, and new rights.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The seminar seeks to position music as a prism for understanding current social changes, approaching them from the interdisciplinary perspective that characterizes CMUS. Priority is given to the critical analysis of contemporary tensions and disputes, illuminating the social environment through the lens of art and the social sciences.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the international guests are the Colombian musicologist <\/span><b>\u00d3scar Hern\u00e1ndez<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Master in Cultural Studies and Doctor in Social and Human Sciences as winner of the 2014 Casa de las Am\u00e9ricas Musicology Award. He will also come  <\/span><b>Jess Reia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Associate Professor of Data Science and Co-Director of the Digital Technology for Democracy Lab at the University of Virginia, United States. Finally, the Argentine sociologist and anthropologist  <\/span><b>Pablo Sem\u00e1n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who specializes in popular and mass cultures and religion. This will be followed by a panel discussion with local guests, moderated by <strong>Christian Spencer<\/strong>. These activities will take place at the Center for Research in Arts and Humanities (CIAH) at Universidad Mayor.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMusic and City Governance\u201d is the central theme for Thursday, October 9th, starting with the lecture \u201cUrban Music Governance: What Street Art Can Teach Us About Data, Policy, and Our Cities\u201d by <strong>Jess Reia<\/strong> (University of Virginia), followed by a panel discussion with local guests. Moderation will be in charge of  <\/span><b>Eileen Karmy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Universidad de Playa Ancha, Valpara\u00edso). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A workshop for CMUS thesis students will be held that afternoon, with the participation of international guests, in the Bellarmino Room at Alberto Hurtado University.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The seminar will culminate on Friday, October 10th at the University of Los Lagos (Rep\u00fablica campus) with \u201cMusic and New Right-Wings\u201d led by Pablo Sem\u00e1n (CONICET-UNSAM), who will give the lecture \u201c100% White and Slum-Dweller.
