The Latin American Congress of Aural Studies will take place between June 24 and 26 at Universidad Mayor in Santiago, Chile. They have issued a call for papers, roundtables, and sound works to discuss listening and aurality in Latin America from interdisciplinary perspectives. <\/p>\n
As the call for papers states, the congress “will host case studies, historical analyses of this field of study, theoretical and methodological reflections, as well as critical reviews of how sound creation and new sound technologies transform or complicate the processes of sound\/listening.” Furthermore, it “will place particular emphasis on the discussion of methodologies and theoretical frameworks that allow for debate on whether and how aurality studies can be distinguished from sound studies.”. <\/p>\n
The thematic lines include intercultural conflicts, socio-historical changes, interspecies relations, post-human and more-than-human listening, (de)colonization of listening, technological mediations, listening to archives, processes of politicization of listening, transitions between audibility\/inaudibility, silences and politics of inaudibility.<\/p>\n
The presentations\u2014which will only be in person\u2014will be of three types: roundtables (up to 4 presenters, 10 minutes each, followed by a discussion and sound pieces (10-15 minutes)) and individual papers (20 minutes). The format for these individual papers should be proposals of up to 500 words, including the reference list. They must also include the title, the presenter’s name, the institution (if applicable), and 3 keywords.
