This Thursday: Meeting on Strategies and Modes of Use in Music Archives
This Thursday, November 20th, the meeting Strategies and Modes of Use in Musical Archives will take place. This day of study on music, archives, and memory will be held at the Institute of Aesthetics of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in collaboration with the Víctor Jara Foundation. The event is also organized by the Chilean Society of Musicology, whose president is Javier Rodríguez, an adjunct researcher at CMUS.
He himself states: “The purpose of this meeting is to open a dialogue between archivists and researchers, to address, among other things, the strategies and modes of use of musical archives, their current challenges, and the tensions or possibilities produced at the intersection between archives and the memories of popular music.”
CMUS principal investigator Laura Jordán (PUCV) will participate in Panel 2 with her presentation “Investigating the Raíces Label Archive,” alongside Javier Rodríguez, who will present “Epistolary Communication in the Archive of Gitano Rodríguez.” Richard Smith will also participate with “Exile and Solidarity in the Liverpool Popular Music Archive.” Meanwhile, Panel 1 will feature Ninoshka Piagneri and Constanza Araya, who will discuss Inti-Illimani at UTE, USACH Heritage Archive; Rodrigo Sandoval, from the Quilapayún Collection, Faculty of Arts Archive, UC; and finally, Javier Osorio, speaking about the Víctor Jara Archive, of the Víctor Jara Foundation.
